We are kicking off our charity series on National Giving Day by highlighting an innovative and impactful nonprofit organization, Old Skool Café. In this podcast, not only will you learn about a remarkable organization, but you will also learn what it takes to start your own nonprofit.

What interested you in joining our TFO Life Academy team?
Financial literacy is a major learning gap for most people. I’m so excited to be a part of a team that’s helping close that gap for so many people!
What excites you about being part of TFO Life Academy?
Helping more people be better prepared for financial success!
What is your earliest money memory?
In 5th grade, my class ran a weekly cupcake sale at our school. I remember the project started with an “investment” from our teacher and we had to pay for supplies and run the sale during lunches. At the end of the year, we made enough money to pay our teacher back the investment and take a trip to the zoo!
What is the best money advice you had been given?
A teacher of mine once told me “it’s not a budget until it’s in writing.” Knowing what your expected expenses are and having a budget are two different things. Having a budget in writing helps me to account for all my spending and actually stick to what I say I will do.
What was the most difficult money lesson you learned?
Sometimes you have to say “no” (I’m still learning this one!)
What is something you enjoy doing that does not cost a lot of money?
My favorite things to do that don’t cost a lot of money are meeting friends for coffee, hiking, and running. My friends and I also love to take road trips or go camping as a less expensive travel alternative.
What is something unique we should know about you?
I was the first in my family to graduate from college, and I did it in just two years!
The college admissions process can be stressful and overwhelming. We consulted with a few experts to discuss how to navigate the process. We are pleased to kick off our College Planning Series with Erin Goodwin, Co-founder and CEO of Going Ivy. In this video, she explains how students can standout to their top choice college.
